The Yoga Vini Approach
Why the Spine
Changes Everything
What makes Yoga Vini unlike any other school
Most yoga trainings teach a collection of poses. Yoga Vini teaches you why every pose works the way it does — and the answer always comes back to the spine. When you truly understand the spine as the axis connecting your outer body to your innermost being, asana, pranayama and meditation stop being abstract and start making intuitive sense.
This is why graduates regularly say they progressed more in 26 days at Yoga Vini than in years of practice elsewhere. It’s not faster — it’s deeper. And because it makes genuine sense, it stays with you for life.

Hatha Asana Practice
The heart of the training. Every asana is taught through Vini’s spine-based lens — understanding how pelvis tilt, spinal extension, and breath engagement make postures both safe and transformative. You will learn not just how to do a pose, but why it works and how to teach it to any body type.
- Classical Hatha asana series — 70+ postures
- Sun Salutation — Surya & Chandra Namaskar
- Standing, seated, prone & supine series
- Forward bends, backbends & twists
- Inversions — Shoulderstand, Headstand, Sarvangasana
- Balancing postures — foundations of stability
- Spine-based alignment — pelvis to crown
- Modifications for different body types
- Use of props to support practice
- Safe hands-on adjustment techniques
- Yoga Nidra — deep relaxation practice
- Shatkarma — 6 yogic cleansing techniques (Neti, Kapalabhati etc.)
🌟 Yoga Vini’s spine-based approach means students progress in 26 days more than many do in years of practice elsewhere.
Pranayama & Breathwork
At Yoga Vini, pranayama is not an add-on — it is the direct bridge between the physical body and the energetic spine. You will learn breathwork as a living, felt experience rather than a mechanical technique.
- What is Prana — the science of vital energy
- Foundations of yogic breathing
- Nadi Shodhana — alternate nostril breathing
- Ujjayi — ocean breath for asana
- Bhastrika — bellows breath
- Bhramari — humming bee breath
- Surya Bhedi & Chandra Bhedi
- Kumbhaka — breath retention practice
- Bandhas — energy locks (Mula, Uddiyana, Jalandhara)
- Pranayama for teaching — how to guide students
💨 Pranayama is taught in direct connection to the spine concept — making the subtle energy body visible and understandable.
Anatomy & Physiology
Anatomy at Yoga Vini is spine-centred and immediately practical. You will not memorize textbook diagrams — you will understand how the body moves, why injuries happen, and how to keep your students safe. Taught by experienced Ayurveda physicians with BAMS degrees.
- The spine — anatomy and function
- Pelvis and lumbar curve — the foundation
- 7 major joints and safe movement
- Muscular engagement in key asanas
- Common yoga injuries and prevention
- Breathing anatomy — diaphragm and ribcage
- Nervous system and yoga — stress physiology
- Hypermobility — how much is too much?
- Modifications for body types and conditions
- Anatomy of meditation — the mind-body link
🏥 Anatomy taught by Dr. Binu Paul & Dr. Priyanka Jose — both BAMS qualified Ayurveda physicians with specialization in yoga therapy.
Yoga Philosophy
Vini’s philosophy classes are consistently described by graduates as among the most personally meaningful experiences of the training. Ancient texts are made alive — connecting Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, and yogic ethics to how you live your real life.
- Introduction to Indian philosophical systems
- Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras — the 8-limbed path (Ashtanga)
- Yamas & Niyamas — ethical living in modern life
- Pancha Kosha — the 5 layers of being
- Bhagavad Gita — action, dharma and the self
- Chakra system — energy centres explained
- Samkhya philosophy — Purusha and Prakriti
- Four goals of life — Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha
- Karma — the real meaning, not the popular version
- How to teach philosophy — making it relevant
📖 “Vini’s philosophy classes made me question everything I thought I knew — and love every moment of it.” — Graduate, 2023
Ayurveda Fundamentals
Ayurveda at Yoga Vini is not just a classroom subject — it is woven into your daily experience. Every meal is Ayurvedic, every morning routine follows Ayurvedic principles, and you receive individual consultations with qualified Ayurveda physicians.
- Introduction to Ayurveda — the science of life
- Tridosha theory — Vata, Pitta, Kapha
- Your personal constitution (Prakriti)
- Ayurvedic diet and seasonal eating
- Sattvic food — the science behind ashram meals

- Herbs and plants in Ayurvedic practice
- Personal Ayurveda consultation with BAMS physician
🌿 Ayurveda consultations led by Dr. Binu Paul (Panchakarma specialist) and Dr. Priyanka Jose (MSc Yoga & Panchakarma).
Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation at Yoga Vini begins before the first class — with the early morning walk to the Ganges. The practice is woven into the day. Evening meditation sessions deepen the inner life that the physical practice opens.
- Principles of Dhyana — meditation in the 8-limb path
- Preparation — posture, breath and sense withdrawal
- Trataka — candle flame concentration
- Chakra meditation — energy body awareness
- Yoga Nidra — yogic sleep and deep rest
- Mantra meditation — Ajapa Japa and OM chanting
- Pratyahara — withdrawing the senses
- Dharana — focused concentration practices
- How to guide a meditation session
- Building a personal daily meditation practice
🌅 Every day begins with a silent meditation walk to the Ganges — one of the most powerful practices of the entire training.
Teaching Methodology
The gap between knowing yoga and being able to teach it is large. At Yoga Vini, teaching practice begins in the first week — with daily opportunities to guide peers and receive structured feedback from senior instructors. You leave genuinely ready to teach.
- The art of demonstration — show, don’t just tell
- Verbal cuing — precise, clear, encouraging language
- Safe hands-on adjustment techniques
- Sequencing principles — building a class
- Class planning — 60, 75, and 90-minute formats
- Teaching for mixed levels and body types
- How to explain asana modifications
- Voice — projection, pace, and tone
- Managing student energy in a class
- Ethics and responsibilities of a yoga teacher
🎤 Daily peer teaching sessions with video feedback ensure every graduate is classroom-ready — not just paper-certified.
Mantra, Kirtan & Sanskrit
Mantra chanting is both a meditation practice and a teaching tool. You will learn the science behind Sanskrit sounds, key mantras for beginning and closing a yoga class, and experience the transformative communal practice of Kirtan.
- Science of mantra — sound and vibration
- Sanskrit pronunciation foundations
- Opening and closing mantras for yoga class
- Shanti Mantras — peace invocations
- Vedic daily mantras — morning and mealtime
- OM — the primordial sound
- Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
- Kirtan evening — communal devotional singing
- How to introduce mantra in your classes
- Mauna — the power of a day of silence
🎵 The Kirtan evening — always held after a day of Mauna (silence) — is described by graduates as one of the most deeply moving experiences of the training.

✦Official Japanese website: india.yogavinirishikesh.com — fully detailed in Japanese
✦Strong community of Japanese graduates — many now teaching across Japan and sharing the Yoga Vini approach
✦Safe, welcoming ashram environment — regularly attended by solo female Japanese travellers

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
Everything You Need to Know Before Applying
Do I need yoga experience to join the 200-hour TTC?
+No previous yoga experience is required to join the 200-hour teacher training. The course is structured as Beginner to Intermediate — Vini’s spine-based approach builds your foundation systematically from the very first class. Many Yoga Vini graduates had very little yoga background before arriving. The 300-hour program is open only to Yoga Vini 200h graduates.
Is it safe for a woman travelling solo to Rishikesh and this ashram?
+Rishikesh is one of India’s safest and most welcoming cities for international visitors. Tapovan — the neighbourhood where Yoga Vini is located — is a quiet, spiritual area. The majority of our students are solo female travellers, many from Japan, Australia, Europe, and the Americas. The ashram has 24/7 CCTV, secure accommodation, and a strong community culture. Graduates consistently describe feeling completely safe and at home. We are always available on WhatsApp before arrival if you have specific safety concerns.
Is there support for Japanese-speaking students?
+Yes — full Japanese language support is available. Vini himself lived in Japan before founding Yoga Vini, giving him a genuine understanding of Japanese culture and sensibility. All pre-arrival communication, inquiry, and on-course support is available in Japanese via WhatsApp. We have an official Japanese website (india.yogavinirishikesh.com) and a strong community of Japanese graduates who have been through this exact journey.
I am not very flexible — will I struggle with the asana practice?
+Flexibility is not a prerequisite — and it is one of the biggest misconceptions about yoga. Vini’s spine-based approach teaches you the foundational mechanics of movement that actually create flexibility safely over time. Students who arrive with tight hamstrings, stiff backs, or no prior yoga experience regularly discover, by the end of 26 days, that their body has changed significantly. The emphasis is on understanding, not performance.
What is the exact fee and what happens if I need to cancel?
+The 200-hour TTC fee is $1,450 USD, fully all-inclusive — accommodation, all meals, all classes, Yoga Alliance registration, Yoga Vini Bag, and airport transfer. For cancellation policy and payment terms, please contact us directly via the application form or WhatsApp. We handle each situation individually with care and understanding.
What will I be able to do with my RYT 200 certification in Japan?
+Yoga Alliance’s RYT 200 credential is accepted industry-wide in Japan as the standard qualification for yoga teachers. Yoga Vini graduates are currently teaching at studios across Japan — from Tokyo and Osaka to smaller cities. You will be eligible to teach at yoga studios, fitness clubs, hotel spas, corporate wellness programmes, community centres, and more. Many graduates also build their own independent teaching practice online or in local communities.
Can I continue to the 300-hour TTC after completing 200 hours?
+Yes — and many students do. The 300-hour TTC is open exclusively to Yoga Vini 200-hour graduates. Completing both earns you Yoga Alliance’s RYT 500 credential — the advanced international standard. The 300-hour is 29 days at $1,800 all-inclusive. The September 28th – October 26th, 2026 batch is ideally timed to follow straight on from the September 200-hour batch if you wish to do both back to back.
What happens after I submit an application inquiry?
+We reply to every inquiry within 24–48 hours — in English or Japanese. We’ll have a short conversation about your background, goals, and any questions. There is no commitment at this stage. Once you decide to proceed, we’ll guide you through the booking process step by step, including visa guidance, how to get to Rishikesh, what to pack, and everything you need to prepare for an amazing 26 days.
